Conformal Coating

Conformal Coating

Conformal coating is a specialty polymeric film-forming product that protects circuit boards, components, and other electronic devices from adverse environmental conditions. These coatings ‘conform’ to the irregular landscape of the PCB providing increased dielectric resistance, operational integrity, and protection from corrosive atmospheres, humidity, heat, fungus, and airborne contamination such as dirt and dust.

desoldering braid

Desoldering Braid

Desoldering Braid

Desoldering braid or desoldering wick is a pre-fluxed copper braid that is used to remove solder allowing components to be replaced and excess solder (e.g., bridging) to be removed. The soldering iron is applied to the wick as it sits on the solder joint, and when both reach the solder's melting point, the flux is activated and, through capillary action from the braided design, solder is drawn up the wick. Techspray wick has been a mainstay at PCB rework, repair and prototyping stations for over 30 years.

Impact of Partial Discharge Through Conformal Coating on Avionics Reliability
The increasing operational voltages impose electrical stress on the printed circuit boards (PCBs) and make them vulnerable to partial discharges (PD) and dielectric breakdown in extreme cases. Conformal coating is applied to protect PCBs from such damages and for increased dielectric strength, protection, and reliability. To prevent degradation of this coating under harsh environmental conditions, the coating must have sufficient thickness. next...

PCBA Cleaning & Conformal Coating Increase Reliability of Critical Systems
The focal point of this article is the factors that affect the performance of conformal coatings in varying climatic conditions. Some essential preliminary steps required before coating PCBAs are emphasized to educate the readers about the current best practices. Finally, we’ll highlight some products from Techspray which clean the PCBAs prior to conformal coating, and eliminate the potential causes of damage to the coating. next...

Temporary Solder Mask Can Minimize Interference in High Frequency PCBAs
This article discusses the adverse effects of using permanent solder masks on the signal integrity of high-frequency PCBs. It also highlights the use of an alternative, a temporary solder mask from Techspray that can simultaneously enhance signal integrity while avoiding PCB reworking. next...

Cleaning & Maintenance Guide for Aircraft Engine Nacelles
One of the dirtiest parts of a jet is the engine which is not much of a surprise. Engines have come a long way since the dawn of the jet age but they still produce a lot of carbon. Carbon is, of course, a leading cause of corrosion, but in the case of engines it can cause more problems than that. Modern engine nacelles are incredible designs which do a lot more than house the engine; they are aerodynamic marvels that are designed to properly channel the flow of air from the engines, and house the accessory drive systems of the engine. Not surprisingly, nacelles are filthy places while also being sensitive places. next...
